#WorldEnvironmentDay……Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) will spear no effort at delivering a clean and befitting environment that would be the pride of all Lagosians, according to its acting managing director/CEO, Ibrahim Odumboni.
He made the commitment while speaking on this year’s World Environment Day with the theme: “Celebrate Biodiversity”, in his office at Ijora.
Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, noted that the global event, called for proactive measures, to address the myriad of environmental challenges facing societies, with attendant negative effects on both plants and animal life.
He said time was ripe for residents, to imbibe the culture of recycling and effective waste management, which would go a long way in saving the environment from decadence and depletion of resources.
“There is need for behavioural change among residents in the state in a bid to address the environmental issues facing the society. We call on the populace to take adequate care of the environment and shun acts capable of posing undue hazards to it”, he said.
The acting LAWMA managing director, reiterated the Authority’s unalloyed commitment to playing its part in establishing cleaner and livable surroundings for both residents and visitors to the state, urging individuals and corporate bodies to join hands with the state government, in making the environment safer for all.
He appealed to residents to avoid disposing their wastes at unauthorized locations like drains and road medians, adding that such acts would only worsen the problem of flooding in the state, as the rains are here.
For PSP related issues and other inquiries, he advised residents to call LAWMA toll-free number 07080601020.
June 5th every year, is set aside by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to raise global awareness on the need for the sustainability of natural resources.
