The Director of Finance in the office of the Presidential Amnesty Program, Mr Illem narrowly escaped death Friday night as assassins allegedly hired by Prof. Charles Dokubo, Head of the Amnesty Program, pursued him from Maitama to the Police Headquarters, Abuja, where he took refuge, sources told Pointblanknews.com.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that trouble started when Dokubo, realizing he might not be reappointed to the office, demanded that all contractors fronting for him be paid before President Mohammadu Buhari dissolves his cabinet.
Illem, according to insiders told Dokubo that the Presidential Amnesty Program does not have enough funds to cover the over N1.8billion owed Dokubo’s front companies.
Irked by the stubbornness of Illem to release funds, Dokubo was said to have used some soldiers to threaten the Director of Finance. Illem fearing for his life, left Abuja for Lagos. On his return few days after, Dokubo allegedly continued the threat.
“He sent some assassins after the DFA. They chased him from Maitama to the Police Headquarters where he took refuge. The SA (Dokubo) is desperate. He wants all his front companies paid before Buhari dissolves his cabinet and appointees,” a source knowledgeable with happenings in the agency told Pointblanknews.com
According to the source, the amount Dokubo wants released to his front companies is more than N1.8billion. “He is asking for more than N1.8billion. He actually has over N4billion that he wants to be paid. He is asking for the N1.8billion for now and the remaining later.”the source who does not want to be named told Pointblanknews.com.
The Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty has been enmeshed in a N13billion phony contracts scam perpetrated at the Boro-Town Training Facility, Kaiama, Bayelsa state.
Dokubo, allegedly has been involved in contract splitting since April 2018, awarding phony contracts to front companies amounting to over N13billion and orchestrated the looting of the N60billion Boro-Town Training Complex to cover his frauds.
Mr. Illem did not take calls when Pointblanknews.com contacted him for his comments on his escape from assassination.
