#SWAT: IG Adamu Issues Instructions For Smooth Take-off Of Tactical Team—-To ensure the smooth sail of the Special Weapons And Tactics unit (SWAT) created Oct 13, 2020, the IG of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has issued a directive to all DIG, FCID and Commissioners of Police
The Genius Media reports that the activities of this new tactical unit will border around:
Response to robbery attacks
Response to scenes of weapon-related crimes
Rescue operations
Special operations involving high-profile criminals
Other important facts the IGP noted about the new SWAT is that:
No personnel of the defunct SARS will be selected to be part of the SWAT team
Operations of the new unit will be strictly intelligence-driven
Members of the team will by no means embark on routine patrols
Members of the new tactical team are barred from the indiscriminate and unlawful search of phones, laptops and other smart devices
Operatives of the new SWAT unit must be free of any pending disciplinary matter especially those touching on misuse of firearms and abuse of human rights.
The letter signed by the IGP read:
“In order to facilitate the immediate take-off of the newly approved NPF-SWAT Team, it is directed as follows:
The DIG, FCID and Commissioners of Police each of the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT are to screen and select a total of 50 officers and men from each of their commands with the following breakdown: CSP – 2, SP – 2, DSP – 5, ASP – 5, INSPR &NCOs – 30, NCO (Drivers) – 6
The selection of the officers and men MUST take cognisance of the selection criteria
The DIG FCID and each commissioner of police across all the state commands are to arrange and transport the 50 selected in their respective commands to the Training Colleges/School for which they are scheduled.
All the officers and Men MUST arrive and document on Sunday, 18th October 2020 at their designated training facility.
The ranks, names and ages of the nominated personnel should be forwarded to the Office of the IGP, DIG Training and Development and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Peacekeeping Directorate, FHQ, Abuja) and not later than Friday, 16th October 2020.”
