International Accounting Day: ICAN President Eulogies Members, Tasks On Professionalism—-The 59th President, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, (ICAN), Dr Innocent Okwuosa, has eulogised members of the association on their contributions to the economic development of the nation.

Okwuosa stated this during a Health Walk organised in Ibadan on Friday, by ICAN Ibadan District Society.

The ICAN president, represented by Mrs Olaitan Babatunde, a member of ICAN Governing Council, noted the worthy contributions of ICAN members in different organisations.

According to him, there are no establishments and organisations that do not require the service of accountants.

“Our 60,000 plus ICAN members are not merely integral stakeholders; they have proven their unwavering dedication to the economic ascent of Nigeria.

“They stand out as professionals committed to serving the public interest with distinction,” Okwuosa said.

He encouraged members to continue to contribute to the economic growth of the nation and to always remember the motto of the institute — accuracy and integrity.

“Our profession has demonstrated remarkable resilience, moving from conventional approaches to embracing cutting-edge technologies like blockchain and AI, meeting the demands of an interconnected economy.

“ICAN’s focus on lifelong learning and adherence to global benchmarks, as recommended by IFAC, ensures that Nigerian accountants are globally acknowledged for their competence and professionalism,” the ICAN president said.

Also, 23rd Chairman, ICAN Ibadan District Society, Dr Temitope Babajide, said the day had been set aside to celebrate accountants globally for their contribution to the economy and for what they do in their different circles.

Babajide urged her colleagues to maintain their integrity.

She said the celebration included healthy workouts for members, as health is wealth.

According to her, the walk will allow members to let out stress, as their work demands sitting in the office for hours.

“But now, we have been able to come out, gist with ourselves, let loose of all the stress and come together as one, and we appreciate God for keeping our lives,” Babajide said.
