Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, has decided to quit his role as a member of the UEFA football board less than two days after he was handed a four-match ban by the European football governing body.
It was earlier reported that the Portuguese tactician on Wednesday, June 21, was banned for verbally abusing English referee, Anthony Taylor, following last month’s Europa League final.
The game ended 1-1 after extra time and La Liga club, Sevilla won the resulting penalty shootout against Roma.
After the match, footage emerged of Mourinho approaching Taylor and yelling expletives in his direction outside the stadium.
He was subsequently found guilty of “directing abusive language at a match official” and suspended for four European matches.
in addition to Mourinho’s ban, Roma were also fined £47,500 and restricted from selling tickets to their supporters for their next European match on the road.

But according to ESPN, Mourinho has now opted to step away from his role with UEFA after the ban.
His letter read: “In thanking you for the invitation you extended to me to be a member of the UEFA football board, I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will be renouncing my participation in this group.
“The conditions which I so strongly believed in when I joined are no longer standing and I felt the obligation to take this decision.
“I kindly ask that you also communicate my decision to the President, Mr. Aleksander Ceferin.”
