He was born August 12, 1930, Offa, Kwara State; married Mary Olabisi Olanipekun 1958, two sons, three daughters.
He attended Offa Grammar School, 1943-47, Ibadan Grammar School, 1947-49, Washington State University, Pullman, Washington, USA, 1952-55, University of Durham, England, 1956-59; appointed geological Assistant, Geological Survey of Nigeria, 1950-52.
He lectured in University of Ibadan, 1959-64; Senior Lecturer, University of Ibadan, 1964-66; co-director, Institute of Applied Science and Technology, University of Ibadan, 1972-73; appointed Professor of Geology, University of Ibadan, 1966; editor, Nigerian Journal of Mining and Geology, 1962-74; President, Nigerian Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Society, 1966-68; member and one-time President, Geological Society of Africa; Chairman, Organization of African Unity (OAU) Team on Inter-African Center for Earth Sciences, 1969-71.
