FACT CHECK!!! Zinedine #Zidane Becomes New Coach For #USMNT?—Former Real Madrid Coach, Zinedine Zidane has turned down an offer to manage the USA men’s national team according to the new report.
The news comes from France’s L’Equipe, who say Zidane is not interested in managing a national team other than France.
According to the report, Zidane also turned down the Brazil and Portugal jobs
The USA job is currently vacant after Gregg Berhalter’s contract expired at the end of last year.
And US Soccer has been mired in controversy over the last week as Danielle Reyna, the mom of winger Gio Reyna, admitted to sharing information with the federation about a 31-year-old domestic violence incident involving Berhalter and his future wife, Rosalind.
Before Reyna’s admission, Berhalter released a statement saying that a third party – reported to be his ex-teammate Cladio Reyna, according to ESPN – had contacted US Soccer during the tournament threatening to ‘take down’ the coach.
Berhalter admitted he committed the ‘shameful’ act of kicking his wife as an 18-year-old, with he and US Soccer confirming there was an active investigation into the matter.
Nonetheless, the 49-year-old said Thursday in an interview with the Harvard Business Review that he would like to continue on as USMNT coach.
‘It’s a fantastic group of players, super high potential in this group… it would be an amazing challenge for this team [competing in the 2026 World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada],’ he said.
