JUST IN: #EndSARS; Nigerians Holds #EndsarsMemorial2 At #LekkiTollgate [SEE TIME]—Nigerians are set to converge at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State on Thursday in order to mark the second anniversary of the widespread #EndSARS protests and Lekki Massacre in 2020.
The activists are planning to gather at Lekki tollgate, Lagos on Thursday from 8 am — 11 am.
Lekki tollgate was the epicenter of the #EndSARS protests in Lagos.
The location had youths airing their grievances day and night until they were dispersed by soldiers of the Nigerian Army on October 20.
The #EndSARS protest was a public outcry for an end to police brutality, extrajudicial killings, extortion, and abuse of power, especially by officers of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Although the Lagos State Police Command is yet to react as of the time of the report, those behind the rally have made plans for the Thursday gathering.
In the past few days, groups have been mobilising online via social media platforms for a car procession to coincide with the Lekki Tollgate incident.
The car procession according to organisers will involve the following:
— Walking and driving through the Tollgate
— Blasting horns, singing, and chanting in unison.
— Waving of flags.
The hashtags — #EndSARS and #EndSARSMemorial are trending on various social media platforms.
Popular #EndSARS activist, Rinu Oduala shared the flier on her Twitter page with the caption “#EndSARSMemorial”.
According to the flier, those who will be participating have been warned that no political material will be tolerated at the venue of the procession.
“Citizens are encouraged to visit the Tollgate throughout the day to pay their last respects to the dead in their own way,” the flier added.
