BREAKING: Professor Wahab Egbewole Becomes New #UniIlorin VC—-The Genius Media Nigeria reports that the Governing Council of the University of Ilorin has appointed renowned Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law, Wahab Egbewole, as its new Vice Chancellor.
This online newspaper gathered that the announcement was made known by the Council Chairman, Mallam Abidu Yazidu this on Thursday evening.
The council arrived at the decision after a rigorous interview session in which 13 top Professors of the University participated.
Recall, The governing council of University of Ilorin had shortlisted 13 candidates for the vice chancellorship position of the university.
Prof Egbewole succeeds outing Vice Chancellor Prof Sulyman Age AbdulKareem whose tenure ends October 15.
UNILORIN’s Chairman, Governing Council Mallam A. Yazid told reporters in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, adding that the 61 years old new vice chancellor has been with the university for the last 25 years.
Yazid said: “In accordance with the laws of this university, the University of Ilorin CAP U7 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, the tenure of the current vice-chancellor is due to lapse on the 15th of October 2022, the council of the university began the process of appointing a new vice chancellor as far back as March 2022.
He is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria having been called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985; he got his first degree from the then University of Ife in 1984 afer which he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos where he obtained his BL (Law) in 1985. He obtained his master’s degree in Law (LL.M) from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1989 and a Phd in Law from University of Ilorin in 2009. He worked as a clerk in the defunct African Continental Bank Ltd in 1981.
He started his career as a legal practitioner in the Ministry of Justice in Ilorin in 1985 where he served as a youth corp member. He joined Femi Ibitoye & co. in Ilorin in 1986 where he rose to the Head of Corporate Affairs Department. He left Femi Ibitoye & co. finally in 1995 to establish his own firm, Wahab Egbewole & Co. where he is currently the Head of Practice.
He became a Notary Public in 1995, he is a member of various learned/professional societies, to mention but a few, Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Society of International Law, Nigerian Assiciation of Law Teachers, African Bar Association, International Bar Association e.t.c. he is a fellow, Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP). He is also a member of various law review committees cutting across Oyo, Osun and Kwara States. He was a member, Council of Legal Education from 2007 to 2012, member, Board of Studies Council of Legal Education from 2007 to 2010, member, Governing Council of Office of Public Defender of Kwara State from 2010 to 2011, Member Governing Council University of Ilorin from 2015 to date. He is a Professor in the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin from 2012 to date.
He has lots of publications in different areas of Law. His wealth of experience in the Law sector has been of immense benefit to Welfare Microfinance Bank Ltd. He is currently serving the bank as a member of the Board of Director and as Chairman of Board Credit/Risk Management Committee.
