Over 400 Badagry Residents Benefit From #NYSC Free Medical Services—No fewer than 400 residents of Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State on Tuesday benefited from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).

The News Newsmen) reports that the programme organised by the NYSC was held at the Badagry Town Hall .

Speaking at the event, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, NYSC Coordinator, Lagos State, said that the programme, a medical outreach, was to areas and people of the community where the scheme was represented.

Baderinwa added that it was further to bring free medical treatment to the doorstep of residents whereby the team of doctors could attend to their issues, offer drugs as well as medical advice.

“Health is wealth as we all know; hence we are reaching out to the rural dwellers in this community. We have specialised medical officers attending to them as the case maybe and giving them drugs, all for free.

“Over 400 beneficiaries and still counting for today. That’s impressive, by tomorrow we will be moving to Ajara community to extend the services to residents there, and it continuous quarterly programme,” she added.

The NYSC, Lagos Coordinator, advised the people to desist from self-medication, stay healthy, keep their environments neat and to as much as they could visit hospitals when they notice any abnormality.

Dr Elijah Akindoru, the medical team leader, said the programme was a measure to bring healthcare to people in rural areas with the aim of assisting them in curbing common sickness.

“The basic objective of the programme is to empower the residents so that they can be in charge of their health.

“We are attending to cases of hypertension, diabetes and emphasis is also on maternal and child care and the focus is basically on these diseases because they are killer disease,” he said.

Also, Aholu Menu-Toyi, the Akran of Badagry, who described the programme as a laudable initiative, advised the beneficiaries to make the best use of the free medical mission for their good.

The traditional ruler was represented at the event by Chief Nunayon Travel, Baale of Akarakumo.

Mr Moses Opa, Secretary, Badagry Local Government Area, a beneficiary, said that the community was delighted with the activities of the NYSC in the area, adding that the HIRD was an exceptional initiative

“I graciously thank the NYSC Coordinator, management and corp members for this wonderful programme and we expect them to continue the good work both in education, agriculture and sanitation exercises,” he added.

NAN reports that the teams had earlier visited the Palace of the Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu Toyi, 1 to receive royal blessings before the commencement of the programme
