According to him, the development will also be introduced to other institutions of learning to ensure more sanity among teenage drivers within campuses.

“The collapse of our olden transport systems has created a big challenge for us at this present time especially in Lagos State.

“And we are working it out to ensure we attain safer roads at all cost.

“That’s why we are involving the academics, the professors to partake not only in traffic control but also in the area of research to ensure our roads are safe and traffic free,” he said.

The FRSC boss also said that plans were on the way to establish a School of Transportation within institutions of higher learning.

“We want to ensure that school of transportation comes to reality in all tertiary institutions to involve courses like Aviation, Maritime, Rail, Road and other traffic management study for safer roads nationwide.”

Oyeyemi added that all the institutions of learning could also get special marshal units as such development would reduce crashes and bring more enlightenment to the motorists.

He said that the FRSC would primarily  involve individuals who have passion for humanity, are  willing and ready to sacrifice their personal comfort and resources to ensure citizens enjoy life by ensuring safe motoring environment.

Responding, the UNILAG V-C,  Ogundipe, thanked the corps marshal for giving them the opportunity to serve the motoring environment.

Ogundipe said that the partnership was to move the country forward in the transportation sector.

“This partnership is about how to move the society forward, that is to reduce traffic within and outside our immediate environment.

“I am sure this opportunity given to us will be fruitful by reducing recurrent traffic within our school gate and ensure free flow of vehicular movement.

“We really appreciate the corps marshal for the opportunity as we propose to contribute our quota in sanitising our roads,” he said.

Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC Lagos State Sector Commander, in his remarks urged the inductees to make proper use of the opportunity.

“This exercise is where commitment meets with passion, and I know the development will come to fruition as the institution is my alma mater,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 25 professors including the V-C and six top management members of the University of Lagos were  inducted into special marshal unit of the FRSC.
