Egypt have progressed to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Ivory Coast on Wednesday at the Japoma Stadium in Douala.

After a goalless draw at full-time and extra time, the Pharaohs booked a place against Morocco in the next knockout phase after successful penalty conversions by Ahmed Zizo, Amroel Soulia, Omar Kamal, Mohamed Abdelmonem, and Mohamed Salah.

Ivory Coast’s penalties were scored by Nicolas Pepe, Ibrahim Sangare, Maxwel Cornet and Wilfried Zaha while Eric Bailly’s effort was saved.
