NGO Urges LASG To Build Rehabilitation Centres In Divisional Areas–The Genius Media Nigeria report that Concerned Nation Builders Initiative (CNI), an NGO, on Saturday appealed to the Lagos State Government to build a rehabilitation centre in Epe Division and other divisional areas in the area.
This was made known Mr Titilayo Adebanjo, the NGO’s Research and Documents Director made the plea in an interview.
He expressed dismay at what he called “gruesome consumption rate of hard drugs” by young people.
He said: “The emerging rate at which this present generation of youths abuse drugs is becoming worrisome and alarming.
“Once a youth is jobless the alternative to console himself is to engage in the use of hard drugs, which invariably affects his psyche.
“The after effects of hard drugs consumption by the Nigerian youths is what is affecting the country today.
“In a situation where the youths are psychologically affected, what will be the future of the country?”
He listed Oke-Iposun, Cele, Papa, Iraye, and other gray areas in Epe Division as some of the areas where the use of hard drugs highly prevalent among the youths.
Other areas he mentioned are Makoko area in Yaba, Ijora Badia, Amukoko, Ikorodu, Oshodi, Mushin, and Lagos Island.
He said youths living in the aforementioned areas “have become nuisance to the society due to the abuse of drugs.
“Their lives are imbalanced, therefore, they need a correctional home to re-orientate them.”
Adebanjo urged other non-governmental organisations and civil society organisations to sensitise the young people to the dangers associated with drug abuse through seminars, workshops, and summits.
“The government alone cannot do it alone; it requires collective effort to develop the nation, ” he said
