BREAKING: DSS Breaks Silence Over Nnamdi Kanu Death Rumours—As against the death rumor spreading in the media space, the Department of State Services has revealed why leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was not in court on Monday for his trial.
The Genius Media Nigeria reports that when trial resumed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the DSS failed to produce the IPOB leader as he was absent.
Giving reason for Kanu’s absence, the DSS said they experienced “logistics difficulties” , hence they could not bring Kanu.
A member of the IPOB leader’s legal team, Aloy Ejimakor, said, “DSS didn’t bring Kanu to court. They gave no valid reason for Kanu not being in court except to say that they had logistics difficulties but the Judge disagreed and told them that “trial can never commence without defendant being present”
TGM gathered that the court adjourned the trial of Kanu to October 21, 2021, for continuation of hearing.
Ejimakor also said the judge ordered the secret police to grant Kanu access to his lawyers twice a week – Mondays and Thursdays.
The lawyer said though the matter was adjourned to October 21, the judge noted that“should any issue concerning the case arise during the vacation, we should call the attention of her staff to it so that she can get the permission of the chief judge for vacation judge to grant us a hearing”.
Meanwhile the IPOB is afraid that Nnamdi Kanu may have died in DSS custody.
In a statement on Monday night released by spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB said;
“The failure of DSS to produce our leader in court today is confirming our fear over the uncertainty concerning his health. Considering his deteriorating health condition since he was kidnapped and the refusal of DSS to grant him access to his personal physicians, it is possible that our Leader may have been killed.
“DSS should prove us wrong by producing our leader in court or granting his lawyers and family members access to him. We are running out of patience. Nigeria should not take IPOB for granted. Our leader must not die in detention.”
