LAI MOHAMMED: Twitter Must Obtain NBC Licence And Pay Tax To Lift #TwitterBan In Nigeria—-Amidst ongoing twitter ban in Nigeria, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that among other things, Twitter must obtain a licence from the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), be guided by the rules of the licensing and pay taxes.

The Genius Media Nigeria reports that he said these were a few of the conditions that needed to be met in order for Twitter to be allowed to resume operation in Nigeria.

He said Twitter had reached out to the government formally to speak on the issues that led to the indefinite ban on the social media service in Nigeria.

“I can confirm that Twitter has written the Federal Government that they are ready to talk. As we have always maintained, the door is not locked and we are open-minded but Twitter must work toward it”, he said.

According to the minister, the regulation of social media is not the same as stifling press freedom.
