FRESH: WTO DG, Okonjo-Iweala Loses Father After Visiting Nigeria—-World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has lost her father.
The Genius Media Nigeria gathered that that Professor Chukwuka Okonjo who was the immediate past Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State died at 91.
In a statement released by the WTO’s Director-General on behalf of the family, he died in Lagos after he arrived from a trip to America and Ghana.
“We are immensely grateful that his last moments were peaceful and that he died the same way he lived his life – with quiet dignity,” she said in the statement.
Dr Okonjo-Iweala emphasized that her father was an accomplished man on so many levels “a highly respected academic, international public servant, university administrator, intellectual and traditional ruler.”
Okonjo-Iweala on Saturday arrived Nigeria on a five-day working visit, two weeks after she assumed leadership of the global body.
The visit, designed to enable her appreciate the support of the federal government towards her emergence will see her holding discussions with President Muhammadu Buhari and other top players in the public and private sectors on how to leverage the WTO and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) to improve trade and the economy.
