ECOWAS REPS: Why We Lifted Mali’s Sanction—-Following the coup that removed Mali’s President from office, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has lifted the sanction previously imposed on Mali.
The Genius Media Recalls that Ibrahim Boubacar and his Prime Minister, Boubou Cisse were arrested by Malian soldiers while senior government and military officers were rounded up in Kati town and elsewhere.
Hence the suspension of Mali’s membership. However, in a statement released on Tuesday, ECOWAS said heads of state have decided to lift the sanction.
The statement said:
“Heads of state and government have decided to lift sanctions” in order to “support” the handover to civilian rule”.
