BREAKING: Okonjo-Iweala Makes Final Shortlist For WTO Director General—The World Trade Organization has today, Friday 18th included Nigeria’s former minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in the final shortlist for the position of Director General.
Three candidates were however evicted from the race for now securing enough support: Egypt’s Hamid Mamdouh, Mexico’s Jesus Seade and Moldova’s Tudor Ulianovschi
WTO General Council Chairman, David Walker in a statement said:
“Their expertise and high professional and personal qualities are highly valued and respected by all members,”
The second phase of consultations would start on September 24 to October 6 after which the WTO would release two final candidates of which one will be the new WTO leader come November 7, 2020.
The former minister is left in the race alongside Saudi Arabia’s Mohammad Maziad Al-Tuwaijri, UK’s Liam Fox, South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee and Kenya’s Amina Chawahir Mohamed Jibril.
