POPE FRANCIS: Gossip ‘A Plague Worse Than #COVID-19––Addressing the members of his congratulation on Sunday, September 6th, Pope Francis compared gossiping to Covid-19 when he said it was “a plague worse than Covid” which is seeking to divide the Catholic Church.
The Pope didn’t give specifics during his weekly blessing, but lengthly talked about devil being the “biggest gossiper” who wants to divide the church.
“Please brothers and sisters, let’s try to not gossip,” he said. “Gossip is a plague worse than COVID. Worse. Let’s make a big effort: No gossiping!”
He expanded on a Gospel passage about the need to correct others privately when they do something wrong as the Catholic hierarchy has long relied on this “fraternal correction” among priests and bishops to correct them when they err without airing problems in public.
This form of correction was however met with dissatisfaction from victims of sexual abuse who said it only gave way for more people to be abused in the church and let both predator priests and superiors who covered up for them escape punishment.
