Aston Villa marched out to villa park hoping to get a point or three to keep their premier league survival hopes alive. That was a dream that was too dreamy.

The champions pounced on Aston Villa’s miserly defence and rained down goals on them in a display that had the villa fans heading for the exits barely 30 minutes into the game.

It was a day to remember for Sergio Aguero and a debut to forget for Danny Drinkwater who arrived on loan from Burnley as he attempts to re-start his career.

Although the 29-year-old was clearly not wholly to blame it was a mistake by Villa manager Dean Smith to start the midfielder and while taking points from City, who now go above Leicester City into second place, was always unlikely it is the nature of this defeat that is damaging.

The goals started with a superb strike from in-form Mahrez at 18 minutes. If the goal was a fluke what followed next was City in their utter ruthlessness as as they scored 4 in less than 25 minutes.

Aguero broke two records on the pitch as he became the highest non-English scorer in the premier league and also the player with the highest hat-tricks.

Manchester city won the match 6-1 with Jesus scoring one, Mahrez 2 and Aguero three. Aston Villa got a penalty in the dying minute and El-ghazi scored a consolation for them.
