At least 10 traditional wedding guests were found dead on Monday at Umuomumu Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The wedding guests from Anambra State had decided to pass the night at their in-law’s residence after the ceremony.
Imo police commissioner, Rabiu Ladodo, said the generator set was kept on throughout the night in the kitchen while the doors and windows of the rooms where the guests slept were locked.
Mr Ladodo said the victims and about 20 survivors had been taken to Ikeduru General Hospital.
He said the command would investigate the incident despite near-certainty of the cause of death.
“It is a case of sudden and natural death but we have commenced an investigation. Assistance is being rendered to the survivors,” Ladodo said.
