Reno Omokri, a former presidential spokesman has reacted to the appointment of Nigerian-born Dr. Kate Anolue as Mayor of Enfield, United Kingdom.

Anolue, a Nigerian born British Labour politician who originally hails from Anambra State was yesterday named Mayor of Enfield for the second time, after having served in 2012.

Reacting in a tweet on Friday, Omokri noted that in just 2019 alone, two Nigerians of Igbo origin have been elected as Mayors in England whereas in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to acknowledge the Igbos.

The lawyer and author in a hashtag on the micro-blogging site stated that Igbos are a blessing to Nigeria.

“In 2019 alone, 2 Nigerians of Igbo origin were elected as Mayors in England, with the latest being Kate Anolue from Anambra. Yet, @MBuhari, who loves living in England more than Nigeria, can’t even acknowledge them because of his 97% versus 5% mentality #IgbosABlessingToNigeria,” he tweeted.

TGM recalls that Ernest Ezeajughi, another Nigerian from Anambra State had made history when he won election as the first Black Mayor of the London Borough of Brent, United Kingdom.

Ezeajughi was elected Mayor on Tuesday, April 16, by the College of Councillors on Brent, London, and sworn into office on Wednesday, May 1.

Before becoming Mayor, Ezeajughi who is a strong member of the Labour Party (LP), had won election for a councillor position representing Stonebridge ward at Brent Council in 2014.
