Niger State police command have arrested one Isah Aliyu, 28, of Angwan Daji, Minna, for being in possession of a sack of leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The suspect told Northern City News on Thursday that he was a member of a five-man gang selling the illegal substance to youths in Maitumbi and its environ.
He said, “We sell Indian hemp to people, especially youths, who go around with politicians. They smoke it and cause trouble wherever they go.
“Now, that the 2019 elections are around the corner, we sell it to youths and thugs hired by politicians; during this period, our turnover is something to be proud of as we make lots of money.”
Aliyu stated that drug peddling was a more profitable venture for him than the menial job he was engaged in.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, explained that Aliyu admitted to being one of the gang members terrorising Angwan, Daji in Minna.
According to him, one bag of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis was recovered from the suspect, while the police have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing gang members.
