The Super Falcons have retained the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) crown after beating South Africa 4-3 on penalties on Saturday in Ghana.
It was a ding-dong affair as both sides ended normal and extra-time without a goal before the ensuing penalty shot out.
With the win, Nigeria have now reached a record ninth continental crown, defending the title they won in Cameroon last year.
In the third place game, Cameroon mauled Mali 4-2 and will now join Nigeria and South Africa at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.
