Spurs have been chasing the England Under-21 international for a number of months, but Villa is adamant that the player is not for sale. And, as the deadline looms, it appears that the north London side has given up on their man.

The Red Devils are in a desperate fight to strengthen their defence ahead of the new campaign and Uruguay international Godin, who has a release clause of €20m (£18m/$23m) has now emerged as an alternative after their pursuits of other targets hit snags.
