“The Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, for the second time, failed to show up in court on Wednesday to answer the charges bothering on gunrunning levied against him and two others.”
Controversial lawmaker and influential chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Dino Melaye, has failed to appear in court again to face charges.
The Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, for the second time, failed to show up in court on Wednesday to answer the charges bothering on gunrunning levied against him and two others.
According to PUNCH Metro, the two suspects charged alongside the Senator, Kabir Seidu, aka Osama, and Nuhu Salihu aka Smally, were in court.
Sulyman Abdalah, who is the trial Magistrate, had at the last hearing fixed Wednesday, August 9 to commence trial following the complaints from Melaye that he was attacked on his way to Lokoja to honour an invitation from the police.
When the case was called on Wednesday, his lawyer, Barrister Yemi Mohammed, who stood in for Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), told the court that his client could not be present in court on health grounds.
He presented a medical report to that effect, a move that was not opposed to by the legal representative of the Kogi State Police Command, Theophilus Oteme.
The two alleged accomplices, however, applied for bail claiming to be suffering for the crime they knew nothing about.
Consequently, Abdalah adjourned the case till Agust 21 for the bail applications of the two alleged accomplices and adjourned to September 20 for hearing in the case of Senator Dino Melaye.
